Sycamore Basketball To Open Season At Indiana On November 10

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State basketball head coach Greg Lansing announced today (Aug. 4) that the Sycamores will open their 2017-18 season at Indiana on Friday, November 10 – the opening night of college basketball season. Tip-off time and television plans will be announced at a later date. Ticket information for this game will also be forthcoming at a later date.

In a series which dates back to the early 1900's, but which has not been renewed since 2006, Indiana holds a 16-5 advantage. The last meeting in the series came on November 17, 2006 when the Sycamores fell 73-66 to the Hoosiers inside Assembly Hall. Prior to that, the Sycamores enjoyed their best run in the series with a 72-67 victory at Hulman Center in December of 2005 when the Hoosiers were ranked 18th nationally. That win made it three victories in a span of four meetings.

The two most remembered Indiana State victories over the Hoosiers came in consecutive seasons during the 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 campaigns which both would eventually send the Sycamores to the NCAA Tournament. On November 28, 2000 Micheal Menser hit a pair of 3-pointers in the waning seconds of a sold-out game inside Hulman Center to propel the Sycamores to a thrilling 59-58 victory. With ISU trailing by four points, Menser hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 8.5 seconds remaining and then he raced up the court to hit another with a half a second remaining for the one-point victory.

On December 12, 1999 Indiana State ventured into Assembly Hall with a 4-4 record while  the Hoosiers ranked No. 15 In the country and walked out with a 63-60 win and became the first-ever team to defeat the Hoosiers in 53 all-time games at the Indiana Classic. ISU fell behind 10-2, but used a 12-2 run to lead 14-12 and would never trail again. Nate Green, Matt Renn and Michael Menser were named to the all-tournament team, with Green earning Indiana Classic MVP honors.

The Sycamore Basketball non-conference schedule continues to roll in as it has been previously announced that Indiana State will take on Auburn on November 16 in the opener of the Gildan Charleston Classic live on ESPNU. Indiana State will face off against either Old Dominion or Temple on November 17 and play wraps on November 19. All games of the Gildan Charleston Classic will be shown live on the ESPN Family of Networks. Also previously announced is a home game on Wednesday, November 29 against Air Force as part of the Missouri Valley/Mountain West Challenge Series. More non-conference matchups will be announced later this month.
